From the Young Republicans article:
On same-sex marriage and abortion, young GOP leaders say Republicans should tolerate a range of views, even while maintaining a socially conservative identity.
Gay marriage: legal, or not? If not, you think that some Americans don't deserve equal rights, which kind of leaves one open to the "bigot" charge.
And on the Voting Rights Act:
Some of these activists say their party must tread lightly after the Supreme Court recently threw out the most powerful part of the Voting Rights Act, the law that became a major turning point in black Americans’ struggle for equal rights and political power.
"Tread lightly" is great stuff.
The official GOP position in any GOP-controlled state (or US Supreme Court) is that they are going to make it as hard as they possibly can to make for blacks to vote. If you don't want to be perceived as a "bigot," well, get your party to stop doing that.
