The psychadelic Elekrik Kontraceptive Krazy Freakout continues at The Korner.
Back during Watergate, the phony pious Left used to whine that “we’re a nation of laws, not men” as they gleefully gutted Richard Nixon’s presidency. Well, nuts to that too. Except for the Ten Commandments, laws are made by men, not men by laws. The implicit fascism of the Obamacare law needs to be civilly resisted and legislatively overturned, not piecemeal but wholesale, the way slavery and Prohibition were; just for laughs, if you want to see widespread civil disobedience in action — against a Constitutional amendment, no less — check out the years 1920–1933.
The Nixon stuff is vintage, but the Prohibition/Obamakare fantasy is exquisite.
America's Women: "So, like, if you continue to let us have contraception paid for, we're going to get mad and make lots of bathtub gin? What? Wait, what?"
?
Fourth, and most important, this compromise does absolutely nothing to protect individual religious Americans.
Sure, since "individual religious Americans" equals "the authoritarian, proudly misogynist, non-democratically organized, large anti-fucking organizations that are bitching." As opposed to pretty much every individual American who wants contraception coverage.
(This afternoon I was running errands, and was flicking the car radio dial looking for Insightful Sports Talk Radio. I swear I heard this, on some wingnut show as I was flicking around -- some loon saying "today it's the Catholic Church! It could be you tomorrow!" And I thought... no it couldn't. Though it would be great if I could. I AM THE POPE, MOTHERFUCKER. SYMPATHIZE WITH MY INSURANCE CONUNDRUMS. And so forth.)
The media spin notwithstanding, this is not a matter of “shifts” on “birth control” by the administration; it’s a matter of a grotesque overreach by state power, one that threatens the entire fabric of civil society as well as the first of American liberties, religious freedom. That is why the judicial challenge to the HHS mandate will be mounted on an ecumenical and inter-religious basis, as the protest against the mandate has been. And that is why legislative attempts to reverse what Obama and Sebelius have wrought have drawn bipartisan support.
Right.
Because if you have a job and need a doctor, FREEDOM means that the doctor calls your boss first to decide whether or not you deserve certain forms of treatment, or if you are instead some class of moral degenerate.
Which you probably are, redsnouts.
