Is Michele Bachmann a dingaling bigot? Yes!
Any of you who have members of your family that are in the lifestyle—we have a member of our family that is. This is not funny. It’s a very sad life. It’s part of Satan, I think, to say this is gay. It’s anything but gay. And so we are not here tonight -- in fact, I wish this whole room was filled with the fay [sic, very] community -- because we'd reach our hand out in love.
And does she support her husband's vicious quackery? Yes! She is proud of it! Because it creates jobs:
HOST: But of course the issue today is about this reparative therapy and about what this hidden camera caught and their opinions are going to be aired on tonight’s news. And you don’t want to comment on that and give your side?
BACHMANN: Well, I’m here to talk about the Presidency of the United States. As I said again, we’re very proud of our business and we’re proud of all job creators in the United States. That’s what people really care about.
Don't Mexican drug cartels also "create jobs in the United States"?
So, there's quite a bit there to support the "dingaling bigot" thesis. The rebuttals have been rather feeble.
One of the most disgusting political spectacles of my lifetime has been the single-minded effort of the Left to destroy Sarah Palin.
The most disgusting political spectacles of my lifetime have been the right-wing cheerleading for stupid wars and torture, the destruction of the economy in the cause of making the rich richer, and then the asshole bigotry. It's a tossup!
Why the hate? The secular feminist world view....
Blah blah blah. I think, rather, it's the straight-up dingbat bigotry. And....
Straight-up dingbat bigot apologist Ann Althouse rushes to defend Bachmann, with predictable results, such as her incredulous yelp "Caught hiding in the bushes of a gay rights event?" As if this were not a well known episode of which there are pictures that one may discover through a cursory Googling.
The burden of Althouse's defense of Bachmann consists of her ignoring the "gay pray" stuff, and her public record of anti-gay campaigns and legislation, in favor of nitpicking a Daily Beast story about Bachmann, lesbians and a bathroom. She ends up blithering that she cannot imagine why Minnesota officials didn't take Bachmann's potty "false imprisonment" accusations seriously: "I don't know the details underlying the decision not to prosecute." Bachmann being a fucking loon might have something to do with it.
This though is much closer to vintage Althousery than her prattlings the other day:
There's a big effort right now to propagate the meme that Michele Bachmann is a raging homophobe. I'm going to monitor that effort for you. I'm not a Bachmann partisan, as regular readers know. I've supported gay rights since long before I started this blog in 2004, and I am not a social conservative. This issue falls right into my zone as a blogger because: 1. I'm observing the 2012 campaign with cruel neutrality as a political independent, 2. I care about consistency in the way women are perceived and described, 3. I think opposition to some gay rights issues should not be conflated with hating or wanting to hurt gay people, and 4. The Bachmann homophobia" issue is rife with the kind of lying and unfair reporting that I am on a mission to expose.
Given that Bachmann quite obviously is a nutty, raging homophobe, this should be fun.
UPDATE. Another Kiwi (comments) is right. Good Lord!
