Erick Erickson, Founder of Red State, employs "snark" in confidently pronouncing the End of the Obama Era and the Dawn of the Conservative Resurgence. (Pay attention to the part I have placed in boldface, particularly.)
William Jefferson lost. Let’s be honest. In his district, his loss had more to do with him not sharing the money in his freezer than it does him having put the money in his freezer.
But beyond that, the media response is interesting.
Since Barack Obama’s election, Republicans won the Georgia runoff. Republicans won William Jefferson’s seat in a heavily Democrat area. Republicans won McCrery’s seat in North Louisiana — a seat the Democrats thought they had a real shot to pick up (and it was close).
Likewise, ardent leftist Mary Jo Kilroy is well behind in the Ohio recount. Al Franken is behind in Minnesota (he was never ahead). Tom McClintock is going to Congress in California.
The first ones though are more meaningful. They all happened after Obama got elected. Three Republican wins, including in Democrat territory.
But I thought Obama’s election was supposed to be, you know, more meaningful.
Crickets.
Hold on, though. I think I hear chirping:
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Democrat Mary Jo Kilroy came from behind Sunday to snatch a central Ohio seat from House Republicans after elections officials tallied provisional ballots.
Kilroy's victory by a little more than 2,000 votes over Republican Steve Stivers put the 15th Congressional District seat into Democratic hands after the retirement of Republican Deborah Pryce.
Saw that coming, didn't you. Anyhow, the win in "Democrat" territory involved an incredibly corrupt (and caught) incumbent (and love the crack about the people in his district, but hey, you still have to like 'em at least as much as, say, Alaskans). Probably the reason Erickson hears "crickets" in his skull is that it makes a nice change from "Yakkity Sax." (And of course the comments over there are, as usual, worth a read-through.)
Here is a free animated gif of Santa Claus laughing at Erick Erickson. Happy holidays!
