There have been attempts on behalf of internet conservatives to Scientifically Prove through Scientific Science Analysis (i.e., crackpot Google searches) that the polls showing that the Republicans are doomed this year are all wrong wrong wrong. Various explanations are adduced for this wrongosity, all of them involving claims of "bias" towards liberals. The other common feature of these Scientific Studies is that they are all incredibly stupid. Wizbang Wingnut Laboratories produces a classic of the genre:
The polls are wrong this year, very wrong. I have been saying this for months, and I have backed up my claim with both statistical and anecdotal support. The claims I have made have inspired some, caused others to laugh in derision, and brought others to test their assumptions and revisit the hard data. Along the way, there have been a lot of questions about how and why the polls could be wrong. The most common complaint, is that for all of the polls to be wrong, there would need to be some sort of conspiracy, or else an incredibly stupid decision made across the board. Well, I am not a big believer in conspiracies, but I do think that the polling groups have fallen into a groupthink condition. I wrote earlier about the fact that of the major polling groups handling national and state polls, all of them are based deep in pro-Liberal, anti-Conservative territories.
Why, many of them are located in NEW YORK CITY. Others are in NEW JERSEY. Or WASHINGTON D.C. And some are in CONNECTICUT. Others are in LOS ANGELES. Quinnipiac is located in MOSCOW. Gallup sends out its reports from BEIJING. Rasmussen makes its calls from THE REMOTE MOUNTAINOUS PASHTUN TRIBAL REGION OF PAKISTAN. Bet you did not know that.
Adding color to this not-conspiracy is that in 2004 at about this point in the election, when Bush was leading the polls, all major polling organizations were headquartered in the basement of a Baptist church in Wakeeney, Kansas. With the exception of Zogby, which was located in a San Francisco gay leather club/mosque.
Wizbang Labs also says that because New Coke was a mistake there is no way that Obama is winning, which certainly makes lots of sense unless you actually think about it. Also, we need to ask "why McCain-Palin rallies are now attracting thousands more people than Obama-Biden rallies," which is certainly an excellent question, along with the mystery surrounding the total lack of recent polls on Nancy Pelosi, if you happen to be an ignoramus.
The amount of nothing that conservatives "know" is only exceeded by the extent of their ignorance about the appalling extent of their ignorance. Wizbang Labs knows nothing about polling, but can't be bothered to find out the answers to the "questions" they raise because they don't have a clue as to how colossally imbecilic their "questions" actually are.
