Was looking for something else and was reminded accidentally of the Conservative Twitter Grassroots Revolution of August 2008 that totally changed everything and reignited the Grassroots Conservative Revolution through the Awesome Power of Twitter. Perhaps you forgot about it because it was so awesome and powerful and everything-changing and astonishingly authentic and grassroots-y and stuff.
#dontgo is officially a movement. MoveOn is mobilizing against the House Republicans and the rightosphere this afternoon. I don't think they've ever done this in response to a grassroots conservative protest. Something has changed.
There has been nothing worthwhile to speak of in recent years that's emanated solely from the base like this has. It's worth our time to take a step back and understand what made this success possible....
Could #dontgo usher in an era of Republican technological dominance in the post-blogging world? Should we cede the blogosphere to the left, and focus on leapfrogging them in the use of tools most necessary to real-time political action? The answer could be yes.
Uh, could be, could be... or maybe not. #Dontgo apparently #didgo. Though they will be back, they promise:
#dontgo Movement is going through a face lift and modification to prepare for the next stage of the online movement. ACTION CENTER COMING SOON!.
I beg the Conservative Movement's pardon, but I somehow fail to feel especially "leapfrogged." Perhaps after the election sometime...?
MORE. This bit from the "Intellectual Conservative" site is funny as hell (albeit from a nerd perspective). The last sentence is the punchline. My emphasis.
Pete Leslie and I are sitting in the the second forum at the Americans for Prosperity by Sam Adams Alliance, which is about the newest online technologies for promoting political media, such as youtube, blip, youseeit.tv and twitter. The right is ahead of the left so far in these areas. Twitter was successfully used last summer by the right with the channel #dontgo to stop Nancy Pelosi from sending Congress home without addressing the gas crisis. To look up groups on twitter, go to search.twitter.com. This conference is being covered on #afp08. You can set up Facebook to send your updates to twitter. Another neat thing they told us about is Feedburner, which will automatically send out your posts over email for free.
