Y'know, I really don't get religion. And I really, really, truly don't get the Catholic Church. I know, I know - if it weren't for the Catholic Church, Thers and Molly would only have four children instead of 947. But still... What is it with churches in America?
He’s also a devout Catholic, and zealous pro-life advocate, who is in deep shit with the Catholic Church. Such deep shit, in fact, that at a recent Mass celebrated in conjunction with a conference of lay Catholic business people, he was called out from the pulpit during the sermon – and refused Communion!
His sin?
He endorsed Barack Obama for President.
Trust me, this is not a pro-Obama post. Hell, it's not even an anti-Catholic rant. But sweet char-grilled Jeebus in a tangy chipotle sauce, can we get the fucking churches out of our political sphere? Can't we?!? These leeches pay no taxes because they claim to be "non-partisan", yet they pull this kind of shit?
"But, Rip!", you say... "they're just churches, they don't really make those kinds of decisions or hold that kind of sway over their parishioners... do they?"
Again, via TRex:
But let’s begin here, with paragraph 35 of “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Action from the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops”:
There may be times when a Catholic who rejects a candidate’s unacceptable position may decide to vote for that candidate for other morally grave reasons. Voting in this way would be permissible only for truly grave moral reasons, not to advance narrow interests or partisan preferences or to ignore a fundamental moral evil.
There is no one - no one! - no matter how many scrolls they've read, no matter how many years of seminary they've attended, that can understand the mind of God. Anyone who tells you they speak for God is a liar and should be shot in the head - or at the very least ridiculed so soundly they're forced to leave town, weeping and blubbering and broken.
As a young boy, I remember my Dad saying, "There's two things you don't talk about - religion and politics." And look at me - discussing religion and politics. Ah well... I'm fucking disgusted by this confluence of religion and politics in America. Fucking disgusted. A Man's spiritual journey is between him and his Creator, whatever it may be. There's no place for the Gov't in that journey and there's no place for organized religion in America's political journey.
In case you need a reminder of what religion can do when it's mixed with politics...
That's just the last five years. This shit needs to end... Now.
