The Altmouse Sitemeter report for today makes for some pretty entertaining reading, particularly the referrals. Apparently one of the people linking to Altmouse today is... Andrew Sullivan, which is funny 'acause one of the jokes of the Altmouse post in question is to do with Althouse's tantrums about Sullivan not linking her, uh, tantrums about Sullivan. I rather hope Sully was being deliberately bitchy here; it would be the most estimable thing he's ever done, in my snide little nonentity opinion, anyway.
The other amusing statistic for today is that Althouse today managed about 10,000 hits... and Altmouse clocked in (as of last count) at 12,963. I fully admit that it is extremely petty of me to point this out, but yeah, it cracks me up.
I've long given thought to the motivations of the mysterious and shadowy and mysterious figure behind Altmouse, the parody. It is rather an odd endeavor, one must admit. I think the reason the Altmouse parodist does it is that Ann Althouse is just really, really funny. Absurdity of her vintage is hard to come by, and connosieurs of the utterly ridiculous can find few more delectable places to feast than her blog.
Also, there is an ethical consideration: Althouse has a mean streak, but is much less reckless in exposing it when she knows she's being laughed at. So Altmouse exists for Althouse's own damn good. I should guess, anyway.
At any rate I'm pretty sure this guy is the one doing the Altmouse posts. Of course I could be wrong.
UPDATE: Twine is fun! What a hoot! But Althouse's commenters are pretty bottom of the barrel. Take this thread, please:

Its ridiculous that the Court would consider mandating the US Gov to "fight" global warming.
There is no concensus that humans are causing global worming, nor a concensus that global warming will be even bad in the future.
It reminds me of the ancient priests forcing the people to change their ways after a tornado hits the town... "God was angry at us for being immoral...because of our behavior God sent this Tornado..." Instead today it is because of our behavior, that god is punishing us with "global warming."
It is all about fear and power with the envioronmental-watermelon crowd. They want socialism, and convincing people about global warming is one way to get it.
Besides, so what if NYC floods a little. It seems that mankind would far more benefit from the billions of acres of farmland that would become available in Siberia and Canada if we had a little global warming than from the starbuck drinking elites losing their beach houses.
How, uh, persuasive. But Phila for one will be relieved to know that this genius is merely applauding the insight of Chief Justice Roberts.
