***POST NOW CONTAINS THRILLING UPDATE!***
Mitt Romney for Health and Human Services chief! Marc Ambinder says that Obama could do worse.
No, he fucking couldn't. In the first place, Romney's an idiot. In the next place, he has his head up his ass. Additionally, he's either a reactionary slime about women's rights to their own bodies, or else he's lying about it, which isn't much better. Moreover, Hugh Hewitt likes him, and Hugh Hewitt is an ass. FInally, what the fuck? Mitt fucking Romney?
A lot of shit seems to be bobbing up out of the Atlantic lately. Must have been some sort of spill...
MORE. Via Brendan, Karen Tumulty also decides to leap out of the box. Tumulty's post ends with this truly chilling sentence:
Jonathan Cohn steps even further out of the box.
Shudder! Certain things are very frightening when they emerge "out of the boxes" in which they had been interred, such as, for example, corpses hideously reanimated through the application of strange, ghastly magicks. Cohn proposes Arnold Schwarzenegger for the HHS post, so this concept applies.
In regards to the phrase "think outside the box," I have long considered our culture's profound shallowness to be epitomized by the fact that we have a cliche for the idea that we should not think in cliches.
In this vein it is symptomatic of how ridiculous our political discourse is that our insider punditry is always preening themselves on how Bold and Daring they are when they propose that the Democrats should Embrace Bipartisanship, when this sort of "contrarianism" is merely the dogma of their class.
Here's some out of the box thinking! How about we all acknowledge that the new president has a fucking mandate to enact universal health care, and the punditry start talking about why our political culture is so thoroughly corrupted that the democraically expressed will of the people to get this done will likely be frustrated?
If the chattering classes can't do this, they need to get back in the fucking box and the box needs to be nailed shut. Air-holes are optional.
