The interesting thing about Red State's Moe Lane is that he is probably doing it for free. Examine:
You can read the text of McCain's proposal and the Obama campaign's response after the fold, but let's cut to the chase. Senator Barack Obama is afraid to face Senator John McCain in any forum where Obama can't control what's being asked of him: Senator Obama will do anything and everything in his power to avoid doing that, for as long as he can; and if Senator Obama's supporters really disagreed with either of the previous two statements they'd be the first to be calling for McCain to meet Obama at any time, anywhere, and any way that McCain liked. But apparently the junior Senator from Illinois doesn't like his chances against a 72 year old who can't even move his arms properly. Shoot, he doesn't even dare give McCain the courtesy of a personal reply.
In politics, the person asking for the debates is always the one who knows he's losing. Always.
Obama has no reason to have anything to do with McCain as far as townhalls or whatnot before the conventions. So he won't. Duh. You may pretend to your heart's content that it speaks ill of your foe that he will not concede to you grounds and rules entirely to your own specifications, but, you know, it doesn't work like that and everyone is laughing at you.
The point is, Moe is arguing at the 6th grade--neener level, and it's just embarrassing. How do you even do that and maintain self-respect? It's just sad, is what it is. Alcoholism is nobler.

I'm sort of enjoying watching Bush supporters rail about the dicklessness of campaigns which control access to the candidate. As far as I know, Obama isn't requiring loyalty oaths, screening for party affiliations and having people arrested for their t-shirts at his public appearances.

Or after, really, unless you're a fan of the sham debate. There isn't a reason to treat McCain as an equal now.

The thing to remember about Moe Lane is that he is, and has long been, an asshole of the first water. A normal man would be embarrassed to have anything to do with Red State, but not Moe.

I don't know about the last point - unless I'm speaking one alcoholic to another - but I like the inuendo in the first line.
To wit, "he is probably doing it for free".
Makes one wonder if our Moe is on the giving or the receiving end of "it".
