Popping Out of the Black Ghost Pie
The always reliably crazy Wall Street Journal opinion page reassures its nervous audience that they have nothing to fear, because white people just don't like that Barack Obama fellow (psst! Despite his attempt to pretend to the contrary, he is really a Negro!):
But his victory in North Carolina depended heavily on his overwhelming (91%) share of the black vote, which made up about a third of the primary electorate. Mrs. Clinton won 61% of white Democrats in North Carolina, according to the exit polls, and 65% of white Democrats in Indiana. Mrs. Clinton also broke even among independents. Clearly Mr. Obama's early promise of a transracial, postpartisan coalition has dimmed as the campaign has progressed and voters have learned more about him.
Connoisseurs will savor that "clearly"; nice try, fellas -- that's a GOP desideratum, not a self-evident truth, by any stretch of the imagination.
It's more than a little silly to think that white Democrats as a bloc are going to break for McCain over Obama simply because of Rev. Wright. Such an assumption suggests that Democratic white voters are racist morons, for one thing. And thus such an assumption is itself pretty racist. Why does the Wall Street Journal opinion page hate white people? Bigots. Why, it's like Louis Farrakhan is running the place nowadays; I just knew letting Rupert Murdoch take over would lead to trouble...
Ha ha. That's just a joke. The WSJ doesn't hate white people, clearly. They just hate working class white people, the group that is usually specifically singled out as the real playa-hatas. These guys, you know, they like to drink! They like their sports! They hate elitists with their lattes and their educations! And these stereotypes are not themselves condescending at all!
Honestly. To listen to Wingnutta, and to the down-to-earth Not at All Elitist gasbags like Tim Russert and Chris Matthews, you'd think that Obama has very limited choices for his vice-presidential pick if he wants to appeal to this white working class demographic, and they boil down to these:

You know, an Obama/Favre ticket is actually brilliant.

If he were to pick Scarlet Johanson as his Veep, Obama would be unstoppable!
But being one of those elitist blacks, he'll probably pick someone competent like John Edwards. Lame.

I thought that if-only-blacks-didn't-vote stuff was confined to the likes of Rush Limbaugh. Pretty startling to see the WSJ editors, with their pretensions to gentility, indulging in it.

Once again the Wall Street Journal Editorial pages are just making things up.
They state that Obama getting 39% of the white vote in NC and 35% in IN is a fatal flaw. When you consider that Gore won the popular vote in 2000 with only 42% of the white vote:
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2000/results/index.epolls.html
and that Kerry came close with only 41% of whites: http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html
You'll see that Obama doesn't have to win over any significantly large numbers of Clinton supporters in order to exceed Gore and Kerry's results. The increased turnout plus mediocre Clinton conversions equals a Obama blowout of McCain.
Unless you think that all of a sudden McCain will also receive the jump in turnout that the Democrats have seen. No Republican candidate has had an increase yet this year but hey, it could happen. That's why people buy lottery tickest.

Obama should pander to the --. Some white people love their farm animals just like family.
*doc left a link to his site with a porn picture of women in cow bodypaint and their genitalia showing. Also he contrasts photos of cow udders and women's breasts. I took out the link, not least because the jackass didn't even include a fucking "not safe for work" warning --Thers

Obama/Favre would blow my mind with its awesomeness.

a transracial, postpartisan coalition
Transracial? I would like to hear more about this race reassignment surgery.

Ill take Door #2, Monty.

The Illinois Senator can certainly breathe easier having dodged a loss in North Carolina, where he once held a big lead.
Yeah, he just squeaked by with that 15% margin. They get paid for writing this shit?

Ill take Door #2, Monty.
Likewise.

Shouldn't a gun be one of the picks?
Or God?
God is my running mate! Has a nice ring to it.

"I'll take Door #2, Monty."
I think after reading this I need to take door number 3. Several times.

Obama/Fukudome would be an awesome ticket too. Talk about balance - Obama a sox fan, Fukudome a Cub - two foreign sounding names for the lamest of the rightwing gasbags to "satirize" - what's not to love?
Posted by: Bob | May 07, 2008 at 08:01 PM
Sorry, Bob, but I don't think we could get an "Arnold Amendment" into the Constitution in time for Fukudome to run.

Second time you've used this gag and the second time I've laughed, Bimler.
I'm hoping Obama picks George Clinton as his running mate. Gainin' on ya!

Bitter Scribe - you're onto something here - Fukudome/Schwarzenegger 2012! Let's get to work on the Constitution now!
Posted by: Bob | May 07, 2008 at 09:10 PM
Busted. It's a fair cop.
Posted by: herr doktor bimler | May 07, 2008 at 09:26 PM
Well, certainly if you ran a Scarlett/Favre ticket, you'd lock up the pirate vote...
Posted by: chiggins | May 07, 2008 at 10:12 PM
He should pick Scarlett holding a Bud. Duh. Although picking a case of American beer hews closely to the most famous description of the Vice Presidency so there's that.
Posted by: eRobin | May 07, 2008 at 10:13 PM
Listen, if you went with Favre, then eventually some elitist would throw out Tom Brady's name to be argumentative and then all hell would break loose, again. Word of advice - stick to the babe and the beer and you're talking steamroller.

You can stop using the joke when wingnuts stop presenting the setup for it. "Will Obama finally renounce being black?"

I'm deeply offended that that picture of Scarlette is so small.
