Strictly Comedy

Apparently, according to Teh Politico, somewhere in some shithole some shithead is running bullshit ads:

The Republican candidate in a special election to fill an unexpectedly contested seat in a conservative Mississippi congressional district is using recent controversies surrounding Senator Barack Obama to tar his Democratic rival....

Unlike a much-reported North Carolina Republican ad attacking Obama, the Mississippi spot is actually airing on television.

The spot marks Obama's rapid ascent in conservative demonology, to a place in an attack ad in a contested race that -- until several weeks ago -- would have been lent to Teddy Kennedy or Hillary Clinton. A National Republican Congressional Committee spot airing in the same district seeks to link Childers to Obama, John Kerry, and Nancy Pelosi.

The ads are a mark of how difficult, with the nomination apparently within his grasp, Obama will find it to stay above or outside the traditional, bitter partisan divisions he so often deplores.

Uh, Politico? Obama will find it difficult to avoid bullshit attack commercials from the conservative cesspit -- this is an insight? News? Something of that sort? Hmmmm? Shit, in this year of Our Lord 2008, the Democrats could nominate Zombie Senator Bilbo, and in Fuckhole Flats MS you'd see ads accusing him of wanting to take your gun and fuck your dog with it and make it gay. Christ...

Here's the real humor of the Politico post:

Meanwhile, as the ad airs, McCain's rhetorical stance seems also to be working: in a column the editor of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal deplores Davis's ad, and gives McCain credit for denouncing such spots.

Heh. Look, either McCain is cynically trying to "denounce" ads he profits from, or else is just plain impotent and can't stop them. One or the other.

Anyway, like I said, McCain is not above the fray in the same sense as the turd is not above the toilet rim. Let's keep that in mind.

I've been in Shithole, MS. It's just south of Memphis in Delta country, America's third world. If the ad didn't have Obama and Rev Wright in it, it'd be Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, or whichever African American is most in the public eye at the moment.

The virulence of the racism is palpable there. Jim Crow doesn't even pretend to hide his head.

Why doesn't Ben Smith report how sickening the racism is to civilized societies around the globe? That may not be news to some of us, but it needs to be exposed for the active dysentery that it really is.

Btw, candidate Davis is endorsed by Trent Lott and his Dad suffered a stroke during the runoff campaign for the Republican nomination. So one racist is nearly dead and the son carries on the Mississippi Klan values. God must be taking an active hand in killing them off like the cockroaches they are.

(sorry, I don't normally vent like that, but some parts of the country are no better than the House of Saud in their capacity to gain from the spread of outeright hatred. And guys like Davis are a waste of perfectly good oxygen.)

Kevin, true enough.

Thers, yes, it doesn't matter who we nominate, of course they'll try to demonize them.

Sadly, our side has made it easier for them to do so, and have made it publicly acceptable for them to make veiled racist arguments.

Some days I think we're no better than the republicans.

I, for one, think that McCain's impotence will become even more apparent as the campaign wears on, and he might slip out of the race entirely.

I, for one, think that McCain's impotence will become even more apparent as the campaign wears on, and he might slip out of the race entirely.

No. The media will never let that happen. They want a horse race and they'll do whatever they need to get one.

Look, call me naive, but I don't see what's so terrible about that ad. All this guy is saying is that Democrats are Teh Evil, this guy is a Democrat, therefore he's evil. A standard political syllogism. Of course he's full of shit, but I don't see what's out of bounds about it. Would we object to an ad that, say, morphed McCain's face into Dubya's?

Well, the head of the NC GOP is Lidd Dole, so I guess the question is: Will McCain get Dole to pull the ad, or will we find that John McCain has been emasculated by Liddy Dole?

...and in Fuckhole Flats MS you'd see ads accusing him of wanting to take your gun and fuck your dog with it and make it gay.

I hear a Foghorn Leghorn voice in my head, rumbling, Ah Say, Ah Say hold on there, son -- don't be em-poor-tune-in' mah home town!

But, it's a lot nicer than the other voices in my head which tell me Fuckhole Flats is just a State of Mind -- meaning, you could be walking down the street, and find yourself at a John McCain rally ... and suddenly, there you are: Fuckhole Flats.

And thoughts like that tend to darken your day.

in Fuckhole Flats MS you'd see ads accusing him of wanting to take your gun and fuck your dog with it and make it gay

Ahhhh, so THAT's how it's transmitted. Good to know, albeit completely unexpected...

Hi. I live in said Shithole, Mississippi, and the reason they are running these "smear" ads against Davis in the MS 1st is that he is WINNING. Okay, fair enough, Trent Lott likes him etc. Bottom line: a Democrat is WINNING in the MS 1st. Said "smear" ads (which are on my tv 24/7) also piss me off coz I voted for Obama. I know no one asked me, but free country and all that.

Just want to point out that Davis = the Republican candidate benefiting from the RNCC ad.

Childers = the Democrat.

No excuses from me about Mississippi. I grew up here and live here. I am totally aware of the limitations, and our state platform pisses me off to no end.

But . . .

Be glad a Democrat can say he wants a timetable to withdraw from Iraq and come within two points of winning a six-candidate race in this district.

Be glad the Republicans have already spent half a million dollars and are discussing spending another million to hold a seat they should be winning by 10 points.

Most of that money could be going to buy votes or depress turnout in a swing state. It says something about our chances in November when the GOP is this desperate in this district.

Just sayin'
