This Michael Medved Townhall piece (yes, Townhall always has the good stuff) about how slavery was no big deal has been getting mocked and derided, and even soundly tut-tutted by some of Medved's fellow mouthbreathers. Could there possibly be a consensus that slavery was Vary Bad and not really a good subject for waterheaded contrarian apologetics? Huzzah.
But who's that jackass over there in the back clearing his throat and waving his arms like he wants to pipe up? Say, isn't that Dan Riehl, just dying to verbalize the solemn thoughts of the Total Asshole lurking inside the Common Wingnut Soul?
Yup.
Michael Medved has a piece that basically re-states the obvious when it comes to slavery. Any current political discussion of American slavery has nothing to do with what happened in America's past. It's simply fodder for a primarily Democrat liberal agenda that keeps minorities, especially Blacks, as captive today as some were in the early days of America. Get over it already.
Why oh why cannot The Blacks ever see that Dan Riehl is the exact equivalent of Harriet Tubman? Why oh why do they not see that when they voted for, say, Bill Clinton, they were doing nothing different than acting like they were still on the plantations? It's just such a mystery why blacks don't vote for the GOP, gosh and golly.
Christ is Dan Riehl ever an asshole.

So, every time we discuss slavery (which has Nothing to do with America's past, oddly) liberal Democrats gain a black voter? Am I reading him right?
And we should just let people like Medved create the new History of Slavery?
Also of note - Medved is the one who, for whatever reason, decided to start yapping about American slavery, Mr. Riehl. Get over it already.

After reading Mr. Medved's musings on Unrecompensed Labor -- (I can hardly call it 'slavery' now) -- my first thought was: someone owes 'Pharaoh' a big fat apology.

Right. Slavery has nothing to do with America's (always glorious, moral, and uplifting) past. Therefore, its legacy can have nothing to do with our (glorious, freedom loving, patriotic) present and the persistent, pervasive racism in this country. A racism which the Republican party plays to and exploits to its own advantage. Dumbass, racist bullshit wholesaled for rightard consumption.

" ... wholesaled ... " ? Careful, Doc: I've seen Wingnuts cry 'anti-Semite' for less ...

I actually spend a fair amount of time in my car screaming at the radio because I have this toxic fascination with the Rush/Hannity mindset. I am consistently stunned by how aggravated I can get listening to Michael Medved and Rusty Humphries, who manage to combine a complete willingness to mis-state the arguments with those who disagree with them with a massive degree of ignorance and mis-information.
Or, in the words of the me-that-listens-to-talk-radio: "WHAT A DUPLICITOUS ASSHOLE YOU ARE MICHAEL MEDVED"

The best revenge is to vote well; i.e., ELECT KUCINICH! Even if he doesn't get nominated, the more support he gets, the more the winner will have to adopt his platform, so we win! If I read K right, he wouldn't object to this line of reasoning, and he wouldn't sell his support cheap! So we'd win!
