They Finally Got Recognized
Do you love Centrism? Sure! We all do! Centrists are very smart and sensible and we need them to rescue us from the Partisans with their Partisanship. Boo! Hiss!
It thus stands to reason that the most reasonable writing in the whole world will be found in the Pit of Ultimate Reasonableness that is the Weblog Awards page for "Best Centrist Blog." Here are the nominees and a sampling of their Nonpartisan Reasonability.
Good Will Hinton. Representative quote: "To truly represent me, the Republican minority should... Stop the Democrats from passing any of their lame populist economic ideas."
C'est Moi. Representative effusion, on The Anchoress: "An exquisite writer with such an interesting perspective. I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to get to know the blog and the blogger."
Homeland Stupidity. Representative plug: "“Entertaining and insightful” — Jim Harper, director of information policy studies, Cato Institute"The Glittering Eye. Representative attitude towards Europe's ability to "contain" Iran: "France and Germany will persuade themselves that just a little more negotiation will get a better outcome forever."
The Gun-Toting Liberal. Representative quote: "The MSM has lost it’s power; it was firmly in control of Free Speech as dictated from our Government. It’s now evolved to the point where “Little Green Footballs”, Michelle Malkin, and perhaps even the Gun Toting Liberal blog have shadowed the New York Times and the Washington Post in terms of credibility with The People. The People are smart enough to realise that WE are the “Press”… that’s right; I’m saying if the New York Times is “The Press”, then so is the Gun Toting Liberal including the “op-eds” by our commenters, and so are YOU with your OWN blog."
The Moderate Voice. Representative attitude towards Europe's ability to "contain" Iran: "I would like to add that Iran is not just in a constant state of war against the U.S., their war is aimed towards the entire West (except for France of course)... I am not necessarily saying that Europe and the U.S. should go to war against Iran. I do believe that they should carry out limited airstrikes against nuclear facilities and they should work together as to harm the economic/financial situation of the Mullahs."
PolCenter. Representative quote: "Call it a gut feeling - but I am of the opinion that Rudy Giuliani would be global jihad’s worst nightmare. To me, that trumps about any other issue out there today.... On a side note - - I’m just musing here a little bit - - I’m thinking of the possibilities of a Rudy Giuliani/Zell Miller run on an Independent ticket. Hey, a former GOP girl can dream, can’t she?"
QandO. Representative comic stylings: "What will we do for entertainment after Cynthia leaves? (pause) Oh, wait, that's right, the Dems come to power in January."
Winds of Change. Representative lament about how we have not learned the True Meaning of 9/11: "But tactics aren't the issue. The issue is will. And, in that respect as in many others, current generations don't compare to the one known as "The Greatest Generation."Ann Althouse. Representative burbling: "I do not like the word 'crotch' to refer the body part in question."
Pretty compelling stuff. But it is nice to see that the Blogospheric Center is every bit as intellectually bracing, and as tolerant of Wingnuttia, as is, say, the "MSM"s most sexy savant, Dean Broder.

Two words: Overton Window.

I am of the opinion that Rudy Giuliani would be global jihad’s worst nightmare.
'Cause of the cross-dressing thing, right?
Kidding aside, that was terrifying.
