Let's Be Clear

A lot has been said already about the '06 elections, and a lot more will be said. Most of this will be crap. So let me just be clear:

The Republicans lost the '06 elections because they are crazy people with shitty policies that have all failed.

Crucial to any analysis of yesterday's results must be the fact that they started a war based on bullshit, and then they quite literally made a bloody mess of it.

Also, they're completely corrupt and incompetent, self-righteously religious, willing to gay bait and race bait, and generally all they do is tell lies and act like total weasels and whine about the phony bugbear of the "liberal media."

Please alert Cokie Roberts.

To be fair, some of them are simply shitty people with crazy policies.

Shorter Theri: Republicans suck!

Thank you. It's all we need to say, but yours is a little less abrasive. And more informative.

Thers, your problem is that you don't understand the soulless implacable evil of the Party of Death. Here's the noted scholar Ramesh Ponnaru to explain it to you:

A Return to Normalcy [Ramesh Ponnuru]
I imagine someone else in blogworld, or maybe even a lot of someone elses, has made this point, but I haven't seen it: For a lot of Americans, having a Democratic House and a Republican president is a pretty familiar arrangement. It was the set-up for 20 of the 24 years between 1969 and 1993. It was the set-up for 26 of the last 54 years.

um... Duh!?
Sheesh, I had already figured out that they were idiots even before 9/11. The aftermath just greatly reinforced that.

That's...so beautiful....

I think I'm gonna cry!

You, know, reading your explanation of the election cheers me up endlessly. It's nice when things are so clear! For once, I'm not on the crazy people team.

"The Republicans lost the '06 elections because they are crazy people with shitty policies that have all failed."

True. But remember. They convinced the public to vote for them.

So remember what the real issue is that we're dealing with here.

Gullible people who are voters. How else can average people be convinced
to give rich people all kinds of tax breaks.

"The Republicans lost the '06 elections because they are crazy people with shitty policies that have all failed."

Did I mention that worked in 2000, 2002, and 2004? And it was close enough in 2006 in individual races to be worried that it might happen again.

Now the pundit class is all about saying that Republicans lost "because they betrayed their true conservative values."

Not.

They lost because they stayed true to their "values": tax cuts for the rich, enviromental rape, and war profiteering.
